The M2 is the smallest and purest car in the BMW M range: rear-wheel drive, the twin-turbo straight-six from the M3 and M4, and a choice of automatic or manual gearbox. For drivers in Cyprus who want a real M car that still suits mountain roads and town parking, it is hard to beat. Built for Japan, it is already right-hand drive.

Why we recommend it

  • A proper rear-wheel-drive M car. Power goes to the rear wheels through an Active M Differential, for the balanced, playful handling M cars are known for.
  • The M3 and M4 engine. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six (S58) makes 480 PS in cars built from August 2024 and revs to 7,200 rpm.
  • Seriously quick. 0–100 km/h takes 4.0 seconds with the automatic, and top speed is 250 km/h, or 285 km/h with the M Driver's Package.
  • Manual or automatic. Choose the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic or a six-speed manual, a rare option in a modern performance car.
  • Usable every day. Four seats, a 390-litre boot and adaptive M suspension make it easy to live with between weekend drives.
  • Modern cabin. A curved display combines a 12.3-inch driver screen and a 14.9-inch central screen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

What to look for

  • 460 or 480 PS. Cars built from August 2024 have 480 PS, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and new wheel designs. In Japan the update went on sale in late October 2024, so most 2024 Japanese cars have 460 PS. Both are very quick; check the build date.
  • Automatic or manual. The automatic is quicker and has more torque. The manual is slower on paper but more involving, and it holds its appeal with enthusiasts.
  • Options worth having. Look for the M Driver's Package, M Carbon bucket seats or the M Carbon roof, and a complete service record.
  • Japanese-market details. Navigation and some menus are set up for Japan, and the FM radio uses a different frequency band. Ask us what can be switched or converted before you order.
